Myths about credit cards

If you've been comparing business credit cards, you know there are a lot of options. With a full to-do list, you may be tempted to stick with what you've had for years – or quickly pick a card and move on. Take a moment to check out these myths and learn why a complimentary consultation could make a big difference in your company's cash flow management.

Myth Reality
If my business is well established, I only need large cash infusions like loans to achieve my priorities. Credit should grow with your business. It can be a tool to help you achieve priorities including growth.
Business credit cards are all pretty much the same. While the differences in rewards structures might not sound very different, they can have a huge impact over time.
I've had the same card for years, and it's fine. The needs of your business when you got the card are probably different than they are today. A new card could help you maximize purchasing power and improve cash flow.
I don't mind paying down our credit card multiple times per month. My staff handles that. Paying down a business card multiple times per month can create inefficiencies and delays in your operations. Making one payment a month will help streamline your process and save time, allowing staff to focus on other business priorities.
I don't want to pay more to get better rewards. While different rewards structures can carry different fees, in the long run those fees can be highly offset by improved rewards.

Not all transactions are considered to be Purchases and eligible to earn rewards, such as transactions posting as Convenience Checks; Balance Transfers; Advances (including ATM withdrawals, wire transfers, traveler's checks, money orders, foreign cash transactions, betting transactions, and lottery tickets); interest charges and fees; credit insurance premiums; and transactions to (i) fund certain prepaid card products, (ii) buy currency from the U.S. Mint, or (iii) buy cash convertible items. Please allow 1-2 billing cycles for rewards to be credited to your Account. Each merchant's business is identified by a category code established by Visa. A Purchase will not earn additional rewards if the category code applied to a merchant is in a category that is not eligible for additional rewards earning. We do not determine the category codes applied to merchants' businesses and reserve the right to determine which Purchases qualify additional rewards.

Account must be open and in good standing (not past due or overlimit) on the closing date of the billing cycle to earn and redeem rewards and benefits. Upon approval, please refer to your Cardmember Agreement or Rewards Program Rules in the online Rewards Center by logging into usbank.com for additional information.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I get a consultation instead of just picking a business credit card on my own?

The card that's right for one business isn't necessarily right for another. Our consultants do an in-depth review during your customized spend analysis to uncover ways they can improve purchasing patterns and maximize value – all while finding a card that delivers the most potential rewards and is easy to implement.

What should I expect during the complimentary consultation?

We'll start with an in-depth, strategic review of your business goals and current spend management practices. Then we'll recommend the business credit card program that best fits your business's needs. We'll also offer any additional best-practice tips for spend management and cash flow management.

What materials do I need to supply so you can do the spend analysis?

To enable our team to make the best, most personalized recommendation, we encourage you to provide current competitor statements along with two years' business financials.

How long will the process take?

Once we have the information needed to begin our analysis, our team can work quickly to put together a customized recommendation that details the impact any changes could have on your business. We've also developed a streamlined onboarding process.

What information do you consider during the spend analysis?

We look at how much your business is spending each month, the categories where you spend the most and your business goals, such as growth. We also identify gaps in the operating cycle and uncover additional spend from all forms of payment that could be transitioned to a business card program to create more operational efficiency.

What training and expertise do the Business Card Consultants have?

Our Business Card Consultants have extensive knowledge of products and services offered by our competitors. Therefore, they deliver a tailored recommendation based on our clients' needs and priorities to add the most value and optimize business spending.

Can I request a Business Card Consultant who has experience working with clients in my industry?

All U.S. Bank consultants have expertise across a variety of industries. We'll be sure to pair you with the consultant who best fits your business.

If I get a complimentary analysis, am I committed to choosing a business credit card from U.S. Bank?

While we hope the process will show you the benefits of choosing the right card for you, there's absolutely no commitment.

If I decide to switch to a U.S. Bank business card, what's next?

When you choose to switch to a U.S. Bank business card, your Business Card Consultant will make it easy. They'll guide you through every step.
